The Star Spangled Big Band

Richard Brown
Studied percussion under Bob Doster, Andrew Koose (Towson University) and Dick Janes (Baltimore Symphony Orchestra, Peabody Conservatory). Performed professionally in the pop, country, classical, and musical theater scenes in Frederick and environs for several years. Played with the George Washington University Jazz Ensemble, in the orchestra pit for GWU premieres of Brecht's Threepenny Opera and Sondheim's Company, and in jazz trio work accompanying the theater department's experimental cabaret jazz series. After a 15-year musical hiatus, joined Frederick's Spires Brass Band in 2000 as tympanist, becoming principal percussionist in 2001 and participating in that organization's successful seasons culminating in two North American championships (2001 and 2003). Have been privileged to sit in with the SSBB and with the Citizens' Brass since 2001. Photo of Richard Brown
