The Star Spangled Big Band

Carl Disque
I've been playing Lead Alto for the SSBB since December 2001. I'm a Frederick native, & I've been playing sax since a beloved great-uncle gave me my first alto in 2nd grade. Thanks Uncle Ed for your gift that just keeps giving! In college, I played 1st Tenor for the University of Virginia Jazz Ensemble. I am grateful to my parents for encouraging my musical aptitude, & for the guidance of instructors James Heuting & Thomas Silliman. I especially remember the late Gary Smith at Gov. Thomas Johnson High School, where my ears were first opened to jazz & improv.

I also play blues & rock in my duo & combo, KoKo Blue, which regularly performs in Hagerstown, MD & Shepherdstown, WV. I am the Founder/Event Chair of the annual Western MarylandBlues Fest (www.blues-fest.org) in Hagerstown. In 2003, I received the Frederick Blues Society's first FREDDIE Award in the 'Instrumental - Horn' category.
